Held in July at Mackay each year, the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival is the largest youth literature festival north of the sunshine coast. It’s also a signature event on the Mackay educational calendar.
It provides a unique opportunity for students and educators to meet and learn from some of Australia’s most acclaimed children and young adult authors, presenters and performers. The festival also offers residents in Mackay and the surrounding areas, an opportunity to participate in a fun-based educational and cultural event not normally available in a regional centre.
With the support of the Winchester Foundation, approximately 500 students travel each year from regional to attend the festival with unbridled enthusiasm! It’s thanks to the Winchester Foundation’s tireless commitment to education in rural communities that these rural children can attend the Festival each year.
