What we’ve been up to
2021 – OAM Recipient Award goes to Mrs Beryl Neilsen. The Winchester Foundation proudly Congratulate Mrs Beryl Neilsen on receiving her Order of Australia Medal from Governor of Queensland, His Excellency The Honourable Paul de Jersey at a special ceremony at Government House in Brisbane.
Beryl received this award for service to the community through charitable organisations, particularly as the founder, director and trustee of the John and Beryl Neilsen Winchester Foundation to support the education of children in remote and isolated areas, and as a sponsor and supporter of the annual conference of the Isolated Children’s and Parents’ Association
2021 – Scholarship Presentation Luncheon was held this year on June 26 to award both 2020 and 2021 scholarship recipients. Last year’s luncheon was not able t be held due to Covid-19 but we were very happy to be able to host this event again in 2021.
2021 – Whitsunday Voices was held at Whitsunday Anglican School, Mackay on 14th & 16th July, 2021 and was a great success.
The Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival is the largest and only literature festival of its kind north of the Sunshine Coast. It provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and residents in and around Mackay to experience a literary and cultural event not normally available outside major metropolitan centres.
This year 490 Students and Teachers attended the 2 day Festival thanks to the Winchester Foundation. We’d like to thank all the volunteers that joined us for this great event and helped house and feed these students who would not have been able to attend this great festival without the support of the Winchester Foundation.
2021 – 50th ICPA State Conference was help this year in Cunnamulla. We sponsor and attend this event every year and we look forward to next years event.
Being the milestone 50th QLD State Conference, the theme “History and Horizons’ was splendidly fitting. The
conference was well attended with 32 branches represented by delegates and observers and many schools and
guests. It was fantastic to see many QLD State and Federal past councillors and the passion, debate and
enthusiasm was evident. Witnessing the presentations of State Life members and Certificates of Appreciation is always a thrill.
Congratulations to: Di Selby awarded Qld Life Membership and Certificate of Appreciation recipients Jack Beach
and Andrew Pegler.
2015 Recipient Luncheon was held at Winchester Downs on Saturday 4th July, 2015. 100 Recipients and Family attended the Luncheon
